Summer Events Raised Over £7,000
The final totals are in, from a summer chock-full of community fundraising for The School of Hope. We were so delighted that our Nottingham-based community supporters came out in force for Guatemala.
In June, the Spanish Club at Nottingham Girls’ High organized a lunchtime fiesta with music, dancing, stalls including a ‘sponge the teacher’ game where Head of Spanish Mrs Pilling and her colleagues were well and truly soaked in the name of fundraising.
Both Lady Bay Primary School and Rushcliffe Spencer Academy celebrated the end of term in July with Spanish themed festivals.
At Lady Bay many local organisations lent their support to produce a two day non-uniform fiesta of Spanish themed learning, which culminated with the children enjoying a Spanish Cafe. VCreate ran dance workshops, Happi Chocolate gave presentations about ethically sourcing and lots of yummy samples, Chocolate Utopia explained the process of making luxury chocolates with gorgeous tasting samples, 200 Degrees gave assemblies about how coffee is sourced from family run farms in Central America with tons of prizes and a competition to design a coffee bag. Kate Hendry from Education For The Children explained what has been happening at The School of Hope in Guatemala over the past year.
After school, parents were treated to Cocktails on the playground with delicious tapas from ViDa by Lorentes restaurant and music from latino duo Mas Y Mas - a fitting end to a two day fiesta.
Over at Rushcliffe Spencer Academy the Esperanza Festival was in full swing.
All students enjoyed an afternoon of games, stalls, tournaments, inflatables, crafts, beauty, workshops including donating to see their teachers soaked with sponges or bathing in jelly!
They also got to indulge in food stalls from samosas to sweets - there was even a bake-off competition.
In early August, longtime supporters and student sponsors Vic and Marilyn Keyworth presented their third K-Fest. A day of music, dancing and friendship.
The Keyworths visited Guatemala in 2018 and were so impressed with the dedication and hard work of all the staff and students at the school.
Marilyn volunteered in a bilingual first grade class, while Vic assisted in physical education and music classes.
These summer events raised over £7,300 - an incredible total. We are so grateful to have such wonderful community support and loved sharing in and seeing the photos of all of the fun activities. Here’s to another summer of sunshine fundraising in 2023!
