Social Services
At The School of Hope the needs of our students are myriad and complex and social support is key to unlocking the path to empowerment.
Our Services
-
Physical Health
Our school nurse Celena has identified cases of malnutrition, domestic abuse, drug use and eating disorders and is vital to ensuring our students are safe, happy and healthy.
As well as caring for students and staff in our nurse's office, we also support students that need long term medical care including life-saving medicines and referrals. We support families with negotitating consultations, lab work, examinations and medication. We also run regular screening for all students including dental health, hearing, ophthalmology, deworming, weight and height evaluations.
Our preventative health work is comprehesive and includes Covid-19 vaccinations, sexual health, violence prevention and personal hygiene workshops.
-
Psychology
Psychological support focuses on emotional support through individual and group therapy. Our students have often experienced neglect, grief or been exposed to violence. We offer workshops with many partner organizations that seek to mitigate harmful behaviour and enable students to seek help and support.
We equip students’ families with parenting and conflict resolution skills. Our psychologist Aracely also supports families one-to-one during complex social or legal problems.
-
Special Education
We have a dedicated Special Educational needs teacher, Gustavo, who works both one-to-one with identified students who present with challenges to their learning as well as support tools for the whole classroom.
Our speech therapist, Mylin provides individual and group therapy to students who need help with specialist help with language skills.
