Education for the Children Foundation currently supports more than 700 students and families in Guatemala. Our goal is to walk alongside students from Prepa through 9th grade by providing education at the School of Hope while supporting their long term path toward opportunity and independence. EFTC is fully funded through the generosity of donors and receives no Guatemalan government funding. Many students come from families facing significant economic hardship, so we take a holistic approach to supporting every child through education, two healthy meals each day, health and wellness support, and ongoing care beyond the classroom.
Our goal is to support students until they reach meaningful employment through high school, university, vocational training, or entrepreneurship. You can make a one time gift or become a monthly Amigo supporter and receive regular updates showing the impact your generosity is making in students’ lives.
Our Amigos are the driving force behind our work. Your monthly contribution is calculated based on the cost of educating one student, yet it supports an entire classroom of 20-25 students, ensuring each one benefits equally. From a five year old ‘Prepa’ just starting out to a high schooler hoping to be the first in their family to ever attend university—your support ensures no student is left behind.
This collective support not only aligns with EFTC’s vision of creating opportunities for all, but it also maximizes the reach of your donation. By pooling resources, we’re able to provide more impactful, long-term support.

Becoming an Amigo means more than just financial help; it’s about nurturing each student’s development within the classroom community. While your monthly sponsorship makes education possible for one student, you’ll get to form a lasting bond with a whole classroom. As their Amigo, you get to follow a class on their entire journey at the School of Hope and beyond through quarterly updates from their teacher.
If you have a family of your own, supporting a classroom is a great way to introduce your children to a different culture, language and the life-changing power of giving.
Monthly Support Options
When you sign up, you will be connected to a class—but if you prefer, you can opt for regular giving without being tied to a specific classroom. Of course you can also cover the cost of more than one student per class.
Nutrition

Provide two nutritious meals per day for one student, including snacks and vitamin-rich drinks, so they can stay focused in the classroom.
Education

Provide essential learning materials (notebooks, pencils, interactive resources) for one student, as well as a contribution to the teacher’s salary.
