Pop, Fizz, Wow: Science Fair Highlights 🧪
On July 12th, the School of Hope transformed into a hub of scientific exploration. Each class had their own stall, and students were excited to show off what they’d been working on. With lab coats on and experiments ready, the day was all about discovery.
Teachers and volunteers were on hand to guide the experiments, making sure everything ran smoothly—no small feat with so many budding scientists in one place.
Some of the Day’s Highlights
Bouncing Bubbles
Our youngest students had a blast with bouncing bubbles, mixing up a solution that made bubbles bounce instead of pop.
DNA Extraction
Using soap, salt, and cold alcohol, students extracted and observed DNA from a banana.
Hydraulic Crane
Over at another stall, students demonstrated the power of water pressure with their homemade hydraulic crane.
Balloon-Powered Cars
Some of our older primary students got hands-on with physics by creating balloon-powered cars. These little vehicles zoomed around, powered by nothing but the air released from a balloon—simple but effective!
Soil Contamination
6th graders used two bottles to show how water moves through clean soil compared to contaminated soil. It was a great lesson in the importance of caring for our planet.
Liquid Rainbow
Some of our secondary students layered different densities of coloured water in a test tube to conjure up a stunning liquid rainbow.
Faraday Cage
Finally, our 9th graders explored the concept of electromagnetic fields by building a Faraday cage. They showed how this structure blocks external electrical signals by placing a radio inside different materials and observing the effects.
