Hairstyling for Hope: A Week with Hair Aid
From September 18th to the 22nd, we had the privilege of hosting Hair Aid, a remarkable organisation with a mission to bring valuable skills to communities facing poverty.
HairAid's mission is as simple as it is powerful: travel to developing countries and teach the art of hair cutting to those in need. With this skill, individuals can set up small businesses in their own communities, earning a living to support their families, access basic necessities, provide education for their children, and secure housing.
Since 2014, HairAid has touched the lives of over 5,500 people worldwide. This year, it was our turn to welcome three HairAid instructors and one translator. Joining them were nine eager participants from our school—three students and six parents—as well as five participants from CasaSito, another local NGO.
The workshops spanned from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm each day and everyone got to enjoy lunches provided by the school. Throughout the week, participants immersed themselves in the art of hairstyling, each mastering five different hairstyles. They got to practise on volunteer models, including family members, friends, students, and staff who eagerly embraced their role as the first clients.
The culmination of the week was a simple yet meaningful ceremony where each participant received well-deserved certificates and kits equipped with everything they needed to start their hairstyling journeys independently.
With newfound skills in hand, our graduates are now equipped to explore their own ventures in hairstyling. Their journey has just begun, and we can't wait to see where these skills will take them.
