A Week of Giving Back
This April, we dedicated an entire week at the school to community engagement, allowing students to learn firsthand about helping others and participating in our community.
The week kicked off with an exciting visit from the local fire brigade. Our youngest learners in kindergarten and first grade were thrilled to meet real firefighters and learn about their crucial role in keeping the Jocotenango safe. Students had a blast learning about firefighting equipment and trying on gear. It's not every day you get to see a firefighter in action!
Later in the week, the traffic police stopped by to teach our younger students about road safety. They didn't just come with lessons; they brought piñatas too, making for a fun learning experience. Our students enjoyed the mix of play and education, which kept everyone engaged.
Our older students had the opportunity to spend two meaningful days at the "Mis Años Dorados" care center, where they got to know the elderly residents. They shared stories, played games, and even put on a live musical performance. It was a heartwarming experience for both our students and the residents, strengthening bonds across generations.
The week wrapped up with our ninth graders planting trees in Jocotenango’s Central Park. More than just beautifying the area, this activity aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and care for the environment in our students.
Community Week was a blend of fun, learning, and giving back. Our students gained invaluable insights into the workings of their community and it reminded everyone involved of the impact we can have when we come together.
