A Summer of Giving: July Events Raised Over £4,000

July was the month of community-driven fundraising here in the UK as our Nottingham-based supporters went all out for The School of Hope.

At Lady Bay Primary School, students assembled to listen to representative Kate Hendry’s update about what’s been happening at The School of Hope in Guatemala. At the end of the school day, parents spent the afternoon mingling as they savoured delightful cocktails.

Over in Epperstone, long-time supporters and student sponsors Vic and Marilyn Keyworth organised a Safari Supper that took participants on a gastronomic adventure. House after house, plate after plate, the Keyworths hosted an evening that not only delighted palates but also gathered generous donations.

The Keyworths first visited The School of Hope in 2018, when Marilyn helped out in a bilingual first grade class, while Vic volunteered to assist in physical education and music classes. Together, they raised just shy of £1,200.

At Rushcliffe Spencer Academy, the Esperanza Festival proved to be a day of fun and giving. Led by the dynamic efforts of Head of Languages Eva Asensio-Vicente, along with the Spanish teachers and the Year 9 organising committee, the fiesta was a resounding success.

The festival grounds were abuzz with laughter and excitement as students enjoyed an afternoon of games, stalls, crafts, and treats. The inflatable slide became a haven for adventure seekers, providing a chance to bounce and slide the afternoon away. And the penalty shoot-out allowed students to hone their football skills.

Students raised donations through the sale of hand-crafted jewellery and even set up a nail art station. While they hesitated to take a chance at sponging a teacher, their teachers didn’t seem to mind getting drenched for a good cause! As the air filled with the aroma of baked goods, attendees gathered around stalls with various delicious treats.

Of course, the festival wouldn't have been complete without music and dance. The school's sound stage became a place for students to showcase their musical abilities. With non-uniform day in full swing, attendees flaunted their style on the dance floor and many even dressed up in the blue and white colours of the Guatemalan flag.

This summer has been a testament to the incredible spirit of our community. Together, our supporters managed to raise over £4,000 – with donations still coming in! We could not be more delighted.

We’re already looking forward to coming together in the spirit of giving next summer!
