A Place Of Metamorphosis At The School of Hope
Un lugar de metamorfosis en la Escuela de la Esperanza
Over the years at The School of Hope, we have had many positive experiences that have filled our hearts with joy. We have also had sad times when, as a community, we have had to say goodbye to students who took their flight before their time. To remember those gone far too soon, our Social Services team came up with a brilliant idea, to create a new space for students and staff to reflect and take time to say goodbye...
Our Director of Social Services, Aracely, shared with us the reason for creating this space:
Last year two beloved students passed away. This had a great impact on us, so as a team we planted flowers in their honour. Little by little the process of a cozy garden started, but something was missing...and so we began the creation of our Butterfly Mural.
A lo largo de los años en La Escuela de la Esperanza, hemos tenido muchas experiencias positivas que han llenado nuestros corazones de alegría. También hemos tenido momentos tristes en los que, como comunidad, hemos tenido que decir adiós a alumnos que emprendieron el vuelo antes de tiempo. Para recordar a los que se fueron demasiado pronto, a nuestro equipo de Servicios Sociales se le ocurrió una idea brillante: crear un nuevo espacio para que los estudiantes y el personal reflexionen y se tomen un tiempo para despedirse...
Nuestra Directora de Servicios Sociales, Aracely, compartió con nosotros el motivo de la creación de este espacio:
El año pasado fallecieron dos alumnos muy queridos. Esto nos impactó mucho, así que como equipo plantamos flores en su honor. Poco a poco comenzó el proceso de un acogedor jardín, pero faltaba algo... y así comenzamos la creación de nuestro Mural de Mariposas.
The main inspiration for the mural were the students that passed away. Students took part in an art workshop where they discussed topics such as grief while learning painting techniques. Many of our staff members also joined in.
For us, it was important that students and staff understood that grief, honoring life and expressing our feelings helps us heal. It was amazing to see how involved they were in the process. Our Director Aracely shares with us:
"Students knew that this was for their friends, they were very respectful and enthusiastic about creating this healing space, a special spot where they can remember them."
La principal inspiración para el mural fueron los alumnos fallecidos. Los alumnos participaron en un taller de arte en el que trataron temas como el duelo mientras aprendían técnicas de pintura. Muchos de nuestros colaboradores también participaron.
Para nosotros, era importante que los alumnos y el personal comprendieran que el duelo, honrar la vida y expresar nuestros sentimientos nos ayuda a sanar. Fue increíble ver lo implicados que estaban en el proceso.
Nuestra directora Aracely compartió con nosotros:
«Los alumnos sabían que esto era para sus amigos, fueron muy respetuosos y entusiastas al crear este espacio de sanación, un lugar especial donde poder recordarlos».
Wonderful things have happened at this newly inaugurated space. It has been used as a place of reflection and meditation. Even the mothers and fathers of the students, who are continuing the work to heal their grief, actively participate in taking care of the garden. It has become a therapeutic place for everyone.
This special space was made possible thanks to the generosity of the sponsors of one of the students who passed away far too soon.
En este espacio recién inaugurado han ocurrido cosas maravillosas. Se ha utilizado como lugar de reflexión y meditación. Incluso las madres y los padres de los alumnos, que siguen trabajando para curar su duelo, participando activamente en el cuidado del jardín. Se ha convertido en un lugar terapéutico para todos.
Este espacio especial fue posible gracias a la generosidad de los padrinos de uno de los alumnos que falleció demasiado pronto.
