Further Education
What happens after graduating from The School Of Hope?
-
High School Scholarship
After finishing 9th grade our students obtain a scholarship to continue their studies. In Guatemala students must choose a specific focus at high school. Students study in a range of local private and public institutions depending on the focus they have chosen.
The scholarship pays for both the tuition fees and also learning materials and any uniform requirements.
-
University Scholarship
After graduating high school, students can continue on to univeristy or college with a full scholarship. This starts with a vocational orientation process at the Universidad San Carlos de Guatemala.
Our team work closely with students to choose a direction of study that matches both their passion and their ability.
The scholarship covers tuition, study materials and specialist equipment.
-
Entrepreneurship Workshops
In 2021 we launched practical skills workshops in hairstyling, nail art and artisinal skills. The premise is that students can develop and hone a skill and then are given the materials to start their own business. These skills allow our scholarship students to start earning money alongside their studies.

A job with better opportunities
We facilitate student access to the formal job market. Our Careers Counselor helps our graduating high-school class and university students find and apply for employment. We give support with resume writing, internships, and visits from local businesses and career fairs. We also help younger students find temporary work when their families are in high economic need. We've found students jobs as accountants, cashiers, cleaning and maintenance personnel, factory workers and sales associates.

Academic Workshops
Throughout the year, either via Saturday or Summer School we reguarly offer additional support to our further education students. This allows us to target student learning in the areas that need most support.
